First movie outing in UK

January 26th, 2008 Steph No comments

sweeney.jpgWe went to the cinema for the first time in UK today. We watched Sweeney Todd. I think both of us are a fan of Tim Burton’s movie…. for me I like the animation.

I have to say this movie is quite gory… there’s actually blood spurting effects when Sweeney Todd slashes his victim’s neck. There is ALOT of blood in this movie as well.

What’s different about this movie is that it’s a musical. A first for Johnny Depp. He actually carry it off quite well. The soundtrack is not bad either.

The only ‘complaint’ I have about this movie is that it is quite long winded. Not sure whether it’s the way it’s being portrayed or there is too much emphasis on the singing.

Anyway, overall I would give this movie a 6 / 10. Would I watch it again? Probably not.

Note: Sorry if you have not watch it yet. :P

iPhone

Finally Dav decided what phone he wants and we went shopping today after work! Well, it’s a gift from me… it’s freaking cool!! And now I seriously want one too…. sigh….

As you can see, Dav is a happy boy. He is busy syncing his iTunes and his iPhone. I was quite amaze at how you activate the phone. Everything is done through iTunes. All you need to do is create an iTunes account, connect the iPhone to your computer and follow instructions to open a O2 phone account. It took us around 15 minutes to set it up.

The phone costs GBP 269 and the cheapest contract is GBP 35 for a 18 months contract.

Can someone buy me one too??

Musical

les-mis.jpgWatched Les Miserables yesterday night with a colleague. Her friends managed to get cheap tickets and the seat was great too. Was 10 rows from the stage!! Have never read the book or watched the movie. Didnt really find out more about the musical from the web before the show. So I went with the perception that it is a very serious and dramatic musical.

I was quite surprised that it was enjoyable and there was even some comedy embedded into the musical. The main actor and actress were great singers! And I was very impressed by the stage setup as well. There was a revolving stage and 2 big movable building lookalike thing. Very creative stage deco. Definitely recommended for those who enjoys musical. The songs are very romantic and easy listening as well.

In line with the mood to catch good shows and concerts, today I bought tickets to watch 1 show and 1 concert. First show in Feb – Varekai, Cirque du Soleil.

Was lucky to find out that this famous circus is performing in Royal Albert Hall. Of course its the most famous venue in London and Cirque du Soleil is very very interesting. I have always wanted to watch their show since I learn about them when I was studying in Sydney. So finally I have the chance to go. Hopefully our seats are not too bad.

First concert in London, we’re going to watch Newton Faulkner in March. His music is very soothing and quite different from mainstream pop. He is called the British Jack Johnson. Few month ago I dont even know who is Jack Johnson.. what more Newton Faulkner. Of course these singers were introduced to me by Dav. Their his fav singers at the moment. So I thought it would be cool to catch his concert.

He launched his new album recently in UK. Check his website to listen to some of his songs. My favourite is ‘Gone In The Morning’ and ‘Teardrop’. Cant wait!!!

It’s already Monday?

This was certainly a busy weekend. Didnt have much time to do nothing at home… heheheh

Firstly there was the wedding reception organised by Devan for Charles and Poh Suan at their place. It was a fun ex-EY/Anderson gathering at Devan’s place. Food was good, drinks was good, company was good. There was a lot of laugh, gossiping, etc. The gathering started at 1pm and we left the place at 930pm! Charles and Poh Suan didnt turn up till 3pm I think. At least they turn up.. hahahah Hopefully we’ll get to see both of them in London again… if not, will have to make a trip to Melbourne to visit them.

Then it was Sunday dim sum with Chen Lien as he’s in town for work. We went to Royal China in Queensway…. although it’s a posh place, it was simply the BEST dim sum I have ever ate in London!! Will definitely go back there again next time. But a word of warning… have to go early. The queue was very very long… I dont like waiting for a table. Luckily we were there early.

After dim sum it was grocery shopping in Chinatown. We havent got anything from Chinatown for a few weeks already. So it was good to get some chinese food and sauces. It’s quite sad that there’s no chinese grocer in Wimbledon.

As usual, Dav is busy with his assignment and homework. So the nite was spent ironing clothes and cooking dinner. Sounds quite boring… and tomorrow is already Mon!

Hope everyday had a great weekend…

p/s: I’m going to watch  Les Miserables on Tues with a colleague! Cant wait.

And she did it again!

Cant believe how simple it is to bake! Not sure if it’s also becos of the simple recipe from Nigella. This time, it is modified version of Nigella’s Banana Butterscotch Muffin.

I present to you – Steph’s Banana Choc Chip Muffin!

There’s too many to be eaten by one person at home. So I packed half of it and planning to bring it to office tomorrow for my colleagues to test it. hehehe hopefully they like it!
