Malaysian Instant Noodle

February 28th, 2010 Steph 3 comments

A very very nice Malaysian colleague gave me a box full of instant noodles. Her friends in Malaysia had sent her the box as a gift and she couldn’t finish it all as she still has a lot. So she passed me the box.

Timing couldn’t be any better. I will be away for one month, thus it looks like Dav will enjoy it more than I do. Let’s hope he will not finish them all in one week!

Thanks Fi!

Found this website on Photojojo… it’s a website showing an old picture of yourself and a modern picture of you in the same pose, background, costume and position. Some of the pictures posted are quite funny. What a great idea…

Favourite TV series

February 25th, 2010 Steph 3 comments

It has been a looong time since I really like a tv series… CSI (the original version) has always been my all time favourite. Then came along House which I’ve stopped following ever since the original group of doctors disbanded. There was also X-Files which was also a favourite when I was in secondary school (Remember Joyce???)

I just wanted to share some of my new tv favourites. Who knows, maybe you’ll like it too.

  • The Mentalist – Now in their second season, this show is all about crime solving using the main character’s strong observation skills. The show is not too serious and the lead, Simon Baker (English actor) is quite cute too. Even Dav likes watching this show.
  • Fringe – Also in their second season, this show reminds me of X-Files. The show is about solving paranormal, unexplained occurrences. It also has a conspiracy theory where the US government is experimenting with various things. Exactly like X-Files! I like. :)
  • Glee – This is an American musical comedy-drama about a group of high school outcast trying to enter a singing/dancing competition. Naturally this show has a good soundtrack. (I have been listening to it non-stop for the past few weeks)
  • Gavin and Stacey – An award winning British comedy series. The show revolves around the lives of the title characters Gavin and Stacey, and follows their family lives, and the lives of their best friends, Smithy and Nessa, respectively. I was introduced to this show by my Geordie colleague. It is very very funny although at times we have a hard time understanding the accent. Sad to say, the creators have decided to end the show after 3 seasons.
  • The Mighty Boosh – Introduced to us by my best friend, we can not get enough of this !!! After 3 seasons, there’s still no news whether they will continue writing another season or they will make a movie. The group has also been touring for the past 2 years which we missed last year.

Becoming a Hamburger

February 24th, 2010 Steph 1 comment

No, I’m not talking about the food!

I’ve been assigned to work in Hamburg, Germany for one month. I’m flying next week. I think ppl from Hamburg is called hamburger… LoL.

Anyhow this assignment sort of spoilt my plans (not like I have tonnes of activities arranged in March that takes place in London). I was hoping I can spent a longer time in London considering we have been away.

I was meant to be in London but at last minute my manager needed someone to lead the work in Germany. He said it will be a high profile assignment and will help rise my visibility in the company. He made it sound like what I’ve been invinsible in the organisation for the past 3 years!!!

Luckily Hamburg is not far so I’m coming back to London every weekend expect for one weekend where Dav will come visit. It’s like my third or fourth visit to Hamburg and second visit for Dav but it’s a nice city to visit. So we don’t mind checking out the other surrounding places. We might even consider taking the train to get out of Hamburg but we’ll see.

Maybe I can consider learning some German along the way…

Gute Nacth!

Flash back

February 21st, 2010 Steph No comments

The week is passing by too fast! Last week especially… the social calendar was packed! I had something to do every night after work except for Monday. Here’s a summary of what I did:

Tuesday – Dinner at Wahaca

Dav arranged a dinner with his colleagues at a Mexican restaurant in Canary Wharf. The food is quite good. The restaurant even give away chilli seeds to grow at home (to be exact, it is Serrano chillies. A kind of Mexican chillies). We actually went and got ourselves pots and compost to try and grow chillis. Last year, our Aussie friends gave us some tulip seeds as well, which we have not tried to grow. So we thought why not grow everything at one go. Let’s see whether we’re successful.

Wednesday – The Misanthrope

My office was selling subsidized tickets to this play last year, which has Keira Knightley in it!! I didn’t manage to get the tickets but luck was on my side on Monday when I saw a colleague selling her tickets. It only costs £27 to see this play! I managed to get 2 extra tickets so I invited NB and AA to come along. It was definitely worth it. Keira was good… she’s damn skinny as well! LoL.

Thursday – Megan Mullally and Supreme Music Program

A colleague saw an ad in the Metro newspaper (daily free newspaper available in the train / tube station) for this concert. In case you’re wondering who she is, she was the annoying character in Will & Grace with the squeaky voice. Yes, she can sing, even with that voice! Apparently she acted in the new version of Fame (which was a flop). Since we manage to get discounted tickets, I thought it was worth a try. It’s always good to discover new music. She was quite good but not amazing. Will I see her again? Maybe not.

Friday – Chinese Grocery shopping at SeeWoo

We decided to invite our friends and colleagues to our house for a CNY gathering. For this gathering, we needed to buy Chinese snacks and food since it is CNY. Instead of going to Chinatown, Dav wanted to check out the Chinese grocer, SeeWoo in Greenwich. This place is HUGE and had lots of variety. The only down side is that it is so far from our house but relatively near to Dav’s office. I dont think we will come back unless we have to get alot of asian good like for this gathering.
